The show at the Maple Ridge Art Gallery is finally up and running. It is on until April 25 which is a nice long time for a show.

Claire Olivier’s beautiful pit fired ceramic pieces and Kaija Rautiainen’s jacquard weaving pieces with my lamps and installation pieces complimented each other perfectly.

I made necklaces from bark, kelp, dried salal, maple, willow and ivy leaves, poppy seed heads, chestnuts, deconstructed pine cones, lichen, and beach weed. They were hung on a 10′ ivy trunk painted black which we found many years ago. It had strangled a tree and killed it so that the whole came crashing down. We cleaned out all the rotted tree trunk and were left with a beautiful ivy trunks twisted around each other. I was thinking that when we have completely desecrated our environment our new jewels will be such things as these.

There were many more pieces but you get the idea. It was fun to do and great to have 3 artists whose work reflects the natural world.
